Metal-free, visible-light-induced denitrogenative phosphorylation of 1,2,3-benzotriazinones was achieved. With the use of eosin Y as a photoredox catalyst, N,N-diisopropylethylamine as a base, CH3CN-H2O as a solvent and sunlight or a blue LED as a light source, a variety of aryl-phosphonates, aryl-phosphinates, and aryl-phosphine oxides were efficiently prepared. In addition, B(2)pin(2) instead of P-nucleophiles as a radical acceptor was also demonstrated. The key advantages of this newly developed method are the clean reaction profile, use of a low-cost organic-dye catalyst, energy efficiency, broad substrate scope, good to excellent yields and large-scale synthetic applicability. The gram-scale synthesised compounds could be isolated in pure form just upon extraction, followed by re-crystallisation; no tedious chromatographic purification was required.

Transition metal catalysis that utilizes N-hetero-cyclic carbenes as noninnocent ligands in promoting transformations has not been well studied. We report here a cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene (CAAC) ligand-promoted nitro deoxyge-native hydroboration with cost-effective chromium catalysis. Using 1 mol % of CAAC-Cr precatalyst, the addition of HB-pin to nitro scaffolds leads to deoxygenation, allowing for the retention of various reducible functionalities and the compatibility of sensitive groups toward hydroboration, thereby providing a mild, chemoselective, and facile strategy to form anilines, as well as heteroaryl and aliphatic amine derivatives, with broad scope and particularly high turnover numbers (up to 1.8 X 10(6)). Mechanistic studies, based on theoretical calculations, indicate that the CAAC ligand plays an important role in promoting polarity reversal of hydride of HBpin; it serves as an H-shuttle to facilitate deoxygenative hydroboration. The preparation of several commercially available pharmaceuticals by means of this strategy highlights its potential application in medicinal chemistry.

A stereoselective amination/cyclization cascade process has been developed that allows for the preparation of a series of unsaturated and substituted caprolactam derivatives in good yields. This conceptually novel protocol takes advantage of the easy access and modular character of vinyl gamma-lactones that can be prepared from simple precursors. Activation of the lactone substrate in the presence of a suitable Pd precursor and newly developed phosphoramidite ligand offers a stereocontrolled ring-opening/allylic amination manifold under ambient conditions. The intermediate (E)-configured epsilon-amino acid can be cyclized using a suitable dehydrating agent in an efficient one-pot, two-step sequence. This overall highly chemo-, stereo- and regio-selective transformation streamlines the production of a wide variety of modifiable and valuable caprolactam building blocks in an operationally attractive way.

Porous polymers have attracted tremendous interest in lithium-sulfur batteries due to the combination of good physical confinement and chemical immobilization to suppress the polysulfide shuttle. Currently, the development of facile and effective methods for fabrication of porous polymers with hierarchical porous structures, strong polar species, and efficient charge-transfer pathways is significant yet challenging, which is crucial for high-performance sulfur cathodes. Herein, for the first time, we present the successful development of a novel class of advanced hierarchical porous polymer nanosheets (AHPPNs) based on a union of surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization and a cross-linking-induced coassembly strategy. Due to their well-defined nanoarchitectures, AHPPNs are capable of providing a commendable shuttle-suppressing shield for polysulfides via strong chemisorption, hierarchical porous structures for immobilizing sulfur and relieving volume change, and shortened pathways for ions and electrons. Benefiting from these synergistic effects, the lithium-sulfur batteries assembled with S@AHPPNs cathodes exhibit greatly enhanced rate performance and long stable cycle capability.

We present a novel series of radioiodinated tracers and potential theranostics for diseases accompanied by pathological function of proteins involved in choline transport. Unlike choline analogues labeled with C-11 or F-18 that are currently used in the clinic, the iodinated compounds described herein are applicable in positron emission tomography, single-photon emission computed tomography, and potentially in therapy, depending on the iodine isotope selection. Moreover, favorable half-lives of iodine isotopes result in much less challenging synthesis by isotope exchange reaction. Six of the described compounds were nanomolar ligands, and the best compound possessed an affinity 100-fold greater than that of choline. Biodistribution data of I-125-labeled ligands in human prostate carcinoma bearing (PC-3) mice revealed two compounds with a biodistribution profile superior to that of [F-18]fluorocholine.

Several phenoxy-imine ligands bearing o-trityl group in phenoxy moiety RN=CHArOH (Ar = C6H2(CPh3)Bu-t, R = 2,6-Me2C6H3 (L1H); 2,6-(Pr2C6H3)-Pr-i (L2H); 3,5-(CF3)(2)C6H3 (L3H); 3,5-(OMe)(2)C6H3 (L4H); CHPh2 (L5H); CPh3 (L6H)) were synthesized and characterized by H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectroscopy. The vanadium complexes based on these ligands LVCl2(THF)(2) (1-6) were synthesized via conventional transmetalation reaction in moderate to high yields. Complexes 1-6 were fully characterized by FT-IR, elemental analyses and the molecular structures of 1, 2 center dot H2O, (2 center dot H2O)(2)(mu-Cl)(2), 4, and 5 were confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis in which the six-coordinated vanadium centers are in a typical octahedral geometry. Upon activation with Et2AlCl in toluene, complexes 1-6 showed high activities in ethylene polymerization affording polymers with moderate molecular weight (5.9-11.8 x 10(4) Da). Moreover, in hexane or CH2Cl2, 1-6/Et2AlCl exhibited enhanced activities. When activated with MAO or MMAO in toluene, these complexes showed relatively low activities but afforded polymers with ultra-high molecular weight (up to 3.30 x 10(6) Da). 1-6/Et2AlCl also showed high activities in ethylene/1-hexene copolymerization at room temperature giving moderate molecular-weight polymers (6.5-11.4 x 10(4) Da) with co-monomer incorporation being of 6.0 similar to 7.8%.

The capture and utilization of CO by 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD) were performed in the absence of transition-metal complexes. The reaction of TBD with CO afforded TBD-CO adducts, which were converted to formylated TBD (TBD-CHO). TBD-CO adducts may include an interaction of CO with positively charged species based on NMR and IR analysis. In the presence of amines, CO was transferred from TBD-CO to amines, producing formylated amines with good yields. The reaction mechanism involving TBD-CO adducts is presented based on theoretical calculations.

To explore new skeleton with nematicidal activity, a series of novel 1,2,3-benzotriazin-4-one derivatives containing piperazine as linker were synthesized and varied fragments were also introduced to increase structure diversity of the new skeleton. Their inhibitory activities in vivo were evaluated against Meloidogyne incognita. The newly prepared compounds A6, A8, A21, A28 and A38 exhibited more than 50% inhibition at the concentration of 20 mg/L. Especially compound A6 displayed 71.4% inhibition against Meloidogyne incognita at the concentration of 20 mg/L. The nematicidal activities varied significantly depending on the types and positions of the substituents, which provided guidance for further structure modification. Small molecule mitochondrial uncouplers have recently garnered great interest for their potential in treating nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). In this study, we report the structure-activity relationship profiling of a 6-amino[1,2,5]oxadiazolo[3,4-b]pyrazin-5-ol core, which utilizes the hydroxy moiety as the proton transporter across the mitochondrial inner membrane. We demonstrate that a wide array of substituents is tolerated with this novel scaffold that increased cellular metabolic rates in vitro using changes in oxygen consumption rate as a readout. In particular, compound SHS4121705 (12i) displayed an EC50 of 4.3 mu M in L6 myoblast cells and excellent oral bioavailability and liver exposure in mice. In the STAM mouse model of NASH, administration of 12i at 25 mg kg(-1) day(-1) lowered liver triglyceride levels and improved liver markers such as alanine aminotransferase, NAFLD activity score, and fibrosis. Importantly, no changes in body temperature or food intake were observed. As potential treatment of NASH, mitochondrial uncouplers show promise for future development.
