This study is the first to report the optimization of diameter of encapsulated sardine oil (SO) particles with gliadins and pecan nutshell extract as wall material during electrospraying. Firstly, the physicochemical stabilization of the encapsulated SO with or without nutshell extract was investigated and compared with the nonencapsulated SO. The average diameter of the SO particles with or without nutshell extracts was around 1473 nm and 564-999 nm, respectively. The two types of encapsulation showed higher encapsulation efficiency (94 and 98%) and loading capacity (25 and 26%). Results from the Rancimat test demonstrated that nutshell extracts at 0.030 and 0.050% w/w improved the oxidative stability of the nonencapsulated SO and improved the stability of the encapsulated SO even more (up to 48 h). FTIR results showed a modification in the secondary structure of the gliadins at the amide I band, indicating the interaction between SO and gliadin and explaining the increase in the oxidative stability of encapsulated SO. In summary, these results indicate that gliadins and pecan nutshell extract could be used as new wall materials for encapsulation and stabilization of SO. Also, pecan nutshell extract could be used as a nutraceutical ingredient or to develop of functional foods by the food industry.

The controlled release of well-defined radical species under mild conditions for subsequent use in selective reactions is an important and challenging task in synthetic chemistry. We show here that simple bismuth amide species [Bi(NAr2)(3)] readily release aminyl radicals [NAr2](.) at ambient temperature in solution. These reactions yield the corresponding hydrazines, Ar2N-NAr2, as a result of highly selective N-N coupling. The exploitation of facile homolytic Bi-Pn bond cleavage for Pn-Pn bond formation was extended to higher homologues of the pnictogens (Pn=N-As): homoleptic bismuth amides mediate the highly selective dehydrocoupling of HPnR(2) to give R(2)Pn-PnR(2). Analyses by NMR and EPR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and DFT calculations reveal low Bi-N homolytic bond-dissociation energies, suggest radical coupling in the coordination sphere of bismuth, and reveal electronic and steric parameters as effective tools to control these reactions.

Self-assembly of metal-organic coordination polymers occurs because of enthalpically favorable interactions. In the case of the bulky 4,4′-(anthracene-9,10-diyl) dibenzoic acid ligand (abdH(2)), we demonstrate that the presence of numerous pi-pi and C-H center dot center dot center dot pi interactions outweigh the formation of saturated coordination complexes with zinc, leading to the formation of a dimethylformamide (DMF) solvate, namely 4,4′-(anthracene-9,10-diyl) dibenzoic acid dimethylformamide disolvate, C28H18O4 center dot 2C(3)H(7)NO or [(abdH(2))(DMF)(2)], at low concentrations of zinc. Meanwhile, at higher zinc concentrations, the abdH(2) ligand gives rise to the nonporous one-dimensional coordination polymer catena-poly[[bis(dimethylformamide-kappa O) zinc(II)]-mu-4,4′-(anthracene-9,10-diyl)dibenzoato-kappa(2) O:O’], [Zn(C28H16O4)(C3H7NO)(2)] n or [Zn(abd)(DMF)(2)](n), when assembled in dimethylformamide, while a related compound is observed when N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMA) is used as the solvent, namely catenapoly[[[ bis(N, N-dimethylacetamide-kappa O) zinc(II)]-mu-4,4′-(anthracene-9,10-diyl) dibenzoato-kappa(2) O:O’] N, N-dimethylacetamide monosolvate], {[Zn(C28H16O4)(C4H9NO)(2)]center dot C4H9NO}(n) or {[Zn(abd)(DMA)(2)] center dot DMA}(n). Attempts to use other amide-based solvents did not give rise to any other assembled structures.

Adsorption using nanomaterials is considered an effective method for controlling the levels of toxic heavy metal in wastewater. Herein, a novel adsorbent, core-shell phase-transited lysozyme film-coated magnetic nano particles (Fe3O4@SiO2@PTL) for Hg(II) ions removal from aqueous solutions was explored via facile and fast phase transformation and self-assembly process of lysozyme. The physiochemical properties of Fe3O4@SiO2@PTL were investigated using various characterization techniques. The adsorption performances such as kinetics, isotherms, selectivity, the effect of coexisting ions, and regeneration were evaluated. Fe3O4@SiO2@PTL showed an extremely high Hg(II) uptake rate and achieved more than 90% equilibrium adsorption capacity in 5 min. Hg(II) adsorption was followed by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and fitted the Langmuir model by achieving a maximum uptake of 701.51 mg/g. Furthermore, excellent Hg(II) selectivity was obtained in a mixed solution containing various heavy metal ions, along with good chemical stability owing to the high adsorption capacity maintained after five cycles. The adsorption analyses indicated that the amino, imino, amide, hydroxyl, carboxyl, and thiol groups exposed on the surface of Fe3O4@SiO2@PTL were vital for Hg(II) removal. Consequently, this work will significantly assist in the development of an easily available, eco-friendly, and selective adsorbent material to remove heavy metal ions from wastewater.

Background: Water evaporation in solar salterns creates salinity gradients that promote the adaptation of microbial species to different salinities. This competitive habitat challenges the metabolic capabilities of microorganisms and promotes alterations in their production of secondary metabolites. Thus, solar salterns are a potentially important source of new natural products. In Colombia, the most important and representative solar saltern is located in Manaure (La Guajira) in the north of Colombia. The aim of this study was to develop an alternative screening strategy to select halophilic bacteria as producers of bioactive compounds from mixed microbial cultures rather than individual environmental isolates. Brine and sediment samples from different ponds (across a salinity gradient) were inoculated in seven different culture media to grow bacteria and archaea, allowing for a total of 40 different mixed cultures. An organic extract from each mixed culture was obtained and tested against multidrug resistant pathogens, including Klebsiella pneumoniae, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. In addition, the extracts were tested against two human cancer cell lines, cervical adenocarcinoma (SiHa) and lung carcinoma (A-549). Results: Twenty-four of the forty extracts from mixed cultures obtained from brine and sediment samples from the Manaure solar saltern showed antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis. Two extracts, referred to as A1SM3-29 and A1SM3-36, were also active against a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, with the latter extract also showing slight cytotoxic activity against the assayed human lung cancer cell line. From this mixed culture, nine isolates were cultivated, and their extracts were tested against the same pathogens, resulting in the identification of a Vibrio sp. strain (A1SM3-36-8) with antimicrobial activity that was similar to that observed for the mixed culture extract. The extract of this strain was subjected to a bioautography assay, and 3 different fractions exhibited antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Based on the amount obtained for each fraction, F3 was selected to isolate and identify its metabolites. The major compound was identified by NMR and HRMS as 13-cis-docosenamide, an amide that has been previously reported to be an antimicrobial and cytotoxic compound. Conclusions: Our results shows the utility of our strategy in detecting bioactive molecules in initial mixed cultures by biological assays, resulting in the isolation and characterization of Vibrio sp. A1SM3-36-8, a halophilic strain with great antibacterial and cytotoxic potential.

Tuberculosis (TB) caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) has become the world’s leading killer disease due to a single infectious agent which survives in the host macrophage for the indefinite period. Hence, it is necessary to enhance the efficacy of the clinically existing antitubercular agents or to discover new anti antitubercular agents. Here, we report the synthesis, characterization and antimycobacterial evaluation of protein-drug conjugates. A carrier protein, Transferrin (Tf) was covalently conjugated to isoniazid (INH) utilizing hydrazone and amide linkers. The purity of the reactions was confirmed by SDS-PAGE while conjugation was confirmed by UV-visible spectrophotometry, MALDI-TOF analysis, and FFIR spectrophotometry. The in vitro antitubercular assay result showed that the inhibitory activity of the parent drug was conserved in both the conjugates. The conjugates were effective against intracellular Mtb H37Rv and were devoid of cytotoxic effect at therapeutic concentration. (C) 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

3184-13-2, Name is H-Orn-OH Hydrochloride, molecular formula is C5H13ClN2O2, belongs to amides-buliding-blocks compound, is a common compound. In a patnet, author is Marinov, Marin, once mentioned the new application about 3184-13-2, Safety of H-Orn-OH Hydrochloride.

In the present study, cuttlefish skin gelatin (CSG) and protein isolate (CSPI) blend films were prepared and their physicochemical and antioxidant properties were characterized. CSG (4%, w/v) was blended with CSPI (3%, w/v) at different ratios in the presence of 15% of glycerol (w/w, plasticizer/polymer dry matter). Results showed that increasing CSPI content induced lower lightness but higher redness, yellowness and color difference values compared to CSG film. In addition, CSPI film had the lowest tensile strength (TS) and elongation at break (EAB) values. The FOR spectra of blend films showed a shift in the position of peaks related to the amide-I group, suggesting that they were involved in the interaction between the biopolymers. The structural properties evaluated by DSC showed a total miscibility between both polymers. This result was also confirmed by the SEM study, revealing a compact and homogenous structure in the blend films. Moreover, the water contact angle decreased in blend films, especially for those having higher proportion of CSPI. On the other side, the antioxidant activity of films was markedly enhanced by the CSPI incorporation. Therefore, CSPI addition into the gelatin matrix allowed to improve the blend films properties, mainly governed by the CSG/CSPI ratio. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The organocatalytic cyclization of propargylic amines/amides with carbonyl sulfide (COS) was firstly achieved by employing COS adducts of Lewis base (LB) as organocatalysts, affording various functionalized 1,3-thiazolidine-2-ones, and 1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-diones derivatives in a highly chemo- and stereoselective manner. The isotope labeling and stoichiometric experiments suggested the LB-COS adducts preferentially mediated basic ionic pair mechanism. Furthermore, the practical application of this methodology was highlighted by the highly efficient synthesis of rosiglitazone using COS as sulfur source.
