Synergistic and nonsynergistic surfactant-water mixtures of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), lauryl betaine (C12B), and cocoamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) systems are studied using molecular simulation to understand the role of interactions among headgroups, tailgroups, and water on, structural and thermodynamic properties at the air water interface. The use of nesfatin-1 significantly increased the amount of collagen, elastin and amides with a simultaneous decrease in the amount of lipids and the expression of AT1R, adropin and nesfatin-1 in the abdominal aorta of ovariectomized rats. In conclusion, our study showed that the ovariectomy surgery induced changes in the abdominal aorta wall characteristic for aging females. Application of nesfatin-1 may prevent the negative consequences in the vessel wall structure in females in conditions of estrogen deficiency and prevent atherosclerotic changes in the cardiovascular system.

Recently, chemotherapy is still widely exploited to treat the residual, infiltrative tumor cells after surgical resection. Upon the stimuli of acid, PTX-SA-CMC NPs showed exceptional instability by pH change, thereby triggering the rapid disassembly and accelerated drug release. Consequently, compared with Cremophor EL-based free PTX treatment, PTX-SA-CMC NPs under pH-stimuli accomplished highly efficient apoptosis in cancer cells and effectively suppression of tumors by chemotherapy. Overall, PTX-SA-CMC NPs integrating imaging capacity might be a simple yet feasible PTX nanosystem for tumor-targeted delivery and cancer therapy.

Here we review the current evidence that structurally diverse gut microbe-derived metabolites, including short chain fatty acids, secondary bile acids, aromatic metabolites, trimethylamine-N-oxide, polyamines, and N-acyl amides, that can engage with host receptors in an endocrine-like manner to promote host metabolic disturbance associated with T2DM. Although these microbe-host signaling circuits are not as well understood as host hormonal signaling, they hold untapped potential as new druggable targets to improve T2DM complications. Whether drugs that selectively target meta-organismal endocrinology will be safe and efficacious in treating T2DM is a key new question in the field of endocrinology. Here we discuss the opportunities and challenges in targeting the gut microbial endocrine organ for the treatment of diabetes and potentially many other diseases where diet-microbe-host interactions play a contributory role.

Our method, termed Upside, employs a reduced model involving the three backbone atoms, along with the carbonyl oxygen and amide proton, and a single (oriented) side chain bead having multiple locations reflecting the conformational diversity of the side chain’s rotameric states. We also introduce a novel, maximum-likelihood method to parameterize the side chain interactions using protein structures. We demonstrate state-of-the-art accuracy for predicting chi(1) rotamer states while consuming only milliseconds of CPU time. Our method enables rapidly equilibrating coarse-grained simulations that can nonetheless contain significant molecular detail. We also show that the resulting free energies of the side chains are sufficiently accurate for de novo folding of some proteins.

For method development the extraction procedure and the chromatographic separation were optimized. Using whole grains of eight wheat cultivars a total of 248 metabolites were annotated and characterized by chromatographic and tandem mass spectral data. Annotated metabolites comprise hydroquinones, hydroxycinnamic acid amides, flavonoids, benzoxazinoids, lignans and other phenolics as well as numerous primary metabolites such as nucleosides, amino acids and derivatives, organic acids, saccharides and B vitamin derivatives. For method validation, recovery rates and matrix effects were determined for ten exogenous model compounds. Repeatability and linearity were assessed for 39 representative endogenous metabolites. In addition, the accuracy of relative quantification was evaluated for six exogenous model compounds. Conclusions In conjunction with non-targeted and targeted data analysis strategies the developed analytical workflow was successfully applied to discern differences in the profiles of semi-polar phytochemicals accumulating in whole grains of eight wheat cultivars.
