The aims of this study are to isolate and characterize acid soluble collagen (ASC) and pepsin soluble collagen (PSC) extracted from silver catfish (Pangasius sp.) skin. This process allows expedient access to chiral alkynyl amides/aldehydes. More importantly, it also provides a versatile tool for the construction of chiral C(sp(3))-C(sp), C(sp(3))-C(sp(2)), and C(sp(3))-C (sp(3)) bonds when allied with follow-up transformations.

Betulinic acid (BA) is a naturally occurring triterpenoid with several biological properties already described, including immunomodulatory activity. Moreover, BA5 also inhibited the activity of calcineurin, an enzyme that plays a critical role in the progression of cell cycle and T lymphocyte activation. BA5 has a synergistic inhibitory effect with dexamethasone on lymphoproliferation, showing a promising profile for drug combination. Finally, we observed immunosuppressive effects of BA5 in vivo in mouse models of lethal endotoxemia and delayed type hypersensitivity. Our results reinforce the potential use of betulinic acid and its derivatives in the search for potent immunomodulatory drugs.

Our nonlinear optical (NLO) investigation based on DFT methods shows that the chromophores could have some use in optoelectronic due to they present second-hyperpolarizability of similar to 72 x 10(-36) esu, in competition with urea, PNA, and some chalcones. The analysis of the global reactive descriptors shows that spilanthol and its two analogs are classified as strong electrophilic chromophores with omega > 1.5 eV. However, the systematic inclusion of the C C bonds from S1 to S3 turns the system less nucleophile. While spilanthol is a strong nucleophile with N > 3.0 eV, the remaining S2 and S3 chromophores can be classified as moderate nucleophilic systems with 2.0 <= N <= 3.0 eV.
