Porous polymers have attracted tremendous interest in lithium-sulfur batteries due to the combination of good physical confinement and chemical immobilization to suppress the polysulfide shuttle. Currently, the development of facile and effective methods for fabrication of porous polymers with hierarchical porous structures, strong polar species, and efficient charge-transfer pathways is significant yet challenging, which is crucial for high-performance sulfur cathodes. Herein, for the first time, we present the successful development of a novel class of advanced hierarchical porous polymer nanosheets (AHPPNs) based on a union of surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization and a cross-linking-induced coassembly strategy. Due to their well-defined nanoarchitectures, AHPPNs are capable of providing a commendable shuttle-suppressing shield for polysulfides via strong chemisorption, hierarchical porous structures for immobilizing sulfur and relieving volume change, and shortened pathways for ions and electrons. Benefiting from these synergistic effects, the lithium-sulfur batteries assembled with S@AHPPNs cathodes exhibit greatly enhanced rate performance and long stable cycle capability.

Metal-free, visible-light-induced denitrogenative phosphorylation of 1,2,3-benzotriazinones was achieved. With the use of eosin Y as a photoredox catalyst, N,N-diisopropylethylamine as a base, CH3CN-H2O as a solvent and sunlight or a blue LED as a light source, a variety of aryl-phosphonates, aryl-phosphinates, and aryl-phosphine oxides were efficiently prepared. In addition, B(2)pin(2) instead of P-nucleophiles as a radical acceptor was also demonstrated. The key advantages of this newly developed method are the clean reaction profile, use of a low-cost organic-dye catalyst, energy efficiency, broad substrate scope, good to excellent yields and large-scale synthetic applicability. The gram-scale synthesised compounds could be isolated in pure form just upon extraction, followed by re-crystallisation; no tedious chromatographic purification was required.

We described a novel scandium-catalyzed selective Michael addition of quinazolinones and vinylazaarenes. The protocol proceeds smoothly to give diverse quinazolinone derivatives in moderate to excellent yields. In one-pot strategy, diazotization of methyl anthranilate 5 followed by addition of amino acid ester hydrochloride, we have prepared methyl-2-(4-oxobenzotriazin-3(4H)-yl)-alkanoates 6a-c. Starting with hydrazides 7a,b, N-alkyl-2-(4-oxobenzotriazin-3(4H)-yl)-alkanamides 9-10(a-h) and methyl-2-(2-(4-oxobenzotriazin-3(4H)-yl)alkanamido)alkanoates 11- 12(a-e) were prepared via azide coupling. Hydrazones 13-15 were prepared via condensation of hydrazides 7a,b with 4-methoxybenzaldehyde, 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, and/or arabinose. Molecular docking was done for synthesized compounds using MOE 2008-10 software. The compounds 9a, 12a, 12c, 13a, 13b, and 14b have the most pronounced strong binding affinities toward the target E. coli Fab-H receptor, whereas compounds 3, 11e, 12e, and 13a have the most pronounced strong binding affinities toward the target vitamin D receptor. The in vitro antibacterial activities of the highest binding affinity docked compounds were tested against E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella spp. Majority of the tested compounds showed effective positive results against E. coli, while they were almost inactive against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella spp. The in vitro cytotoxic activities of the highest binding affinity-docked compounds were tested against the human liver carcinoma cell line (HepG2). Some compounds showed potent cytotoxic activity with low IC50 values, especially for 3 (6.525 mu M) and 13a (10.97 mu M) than that for standard drug doxorubicin (2.06 mu M).

A series of novel 1,2,3-benzotriazin-4-one derivatives containing 4,5-dihydrothiazole-2-thiol were synthesized and characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, F-19 NMR and HRMS. The bioassay results showed that compounds 3-(3-((4,5-dihydrothiazol-2-yl)thio)propyl)-7-methoxybenzo[d][1-3]triazin-4(3H)-one, 3-(3-((4,5-dihydrothiazol-2-yl)thio)propyl)-6-nitrobenzo[d][1-3]triazin-4(3H)-one, 7-chloro-3-(3-((4,5-dihydrothiazol-2-yl)thio)propyl)benzo[d][1-3]triazin-4(3H)-one exhibited good control efficacy against the cucumber root-knot nematode disease caused by Meloidogyne incognita at the concentration of 10.0 mg L-1 in vivo. Compound 7-chloro-3-(3-((4,5-dihydrothiazol-2-yl)thio)propyl)benzo[d][1-3]triazin-4(3H)-one showed excellent nematicidal activity with inhibition 68.3% at a concentration of 1.0 mg L-1. It suggested that the structure of 1,2,3-benzotriazin-4-one containing 4,5-dihydro-thiazole-2-thiol could be optimized further.

Vicinal dithiol-containing proteins (VDPs) play an important role in maintaining the structures and functions of proteins mainly through the conversion between dithiols and disulfide bonds. The content of VDPs also reflects the redox status of an organism. To specifically and expediently detect VDPs, we developed a turn-on monoarsenical fluorescent probe (NEP) based on the intramolecular charge transfer mechanism. Naphthalimide was chosen as a fluorophore and linked with the receptor moiety (cyclic dithiarsolane) via carbamate segment. In the presence of VDPs, NEP displays a strong green fluorescence signal produced by the cyclic dithiarsolane cleavage and subsequent intramolecular cyclization to liberate the fluorophore. Furthermore, NEP exhibits high selectivity toward VDPs over other protein thiols and low molecular weight thiols. The favorable properties of NEP enable it readily to detect VDPs in live cells and in vivo. In addition, a remarkable decrease of VDPs in parkinsonism was disclosed for the first time, highlighting that regulating VDPs level has a therapeutic potential for parkinsonism.

The bifunctional ligand p-SCN-Bn-HOPO, which has four 1,2-hydroxypyridinone groups on a spermine backbone with an isothiocyanate linker, has been shown to be an efficient and stable chelator for Zr(iv) and, more importantly, the radioisotope Zr-89 for use in radiolabeling antibodies for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Previous studies of Zr-89-HOPO-trastuzumab in mice showed low background, good tumor to organ contrast, and very low bone uptake which show p-SCN-Bn-HOPO to be an important next-generation bifunctional chelator for radioimmunoPET imaging with Zr-89. However, the reported synthesis of p-SCN-Bn-HOPO involves nine steps and multiple HPLC purifications with an overall yield of about 1.4%. Herein we report an improved and efficient synthesis of p-SCN-Bn-HOPO in four steps with 14.3% overall yield which will improve its availability for further biological studies and wider application in PET imaging. The new synthetic route also allows variation in linker length and chemistries which may be helpful in modifying in vivo clearance behaviors of future agents.

Asymmetric synthesis based on DNA scaffolds has been actively exploited because of the advantages of DNA such as diverse tertiary structures, chemical stability, and easy handling. Since duplex DNA-based hybrid catalysts have demonstrated this remarkable capability, efforts have been made to investigate new biomolecular scaffolds. Herein, we report modular quadruplex-duplex (QD) hybrid DNA catalysts containing bipyridine ligands and hydrogen donor moieties. The conformation, thermal stability, and metal-binding ability of modified QD hybrid DNA were characterized using spectroscopy. The QD hybrid-based DNA catalysts were successfully applied to asymmetric Michael addition reactions (86% conversion and 76% ee). This study describes a new type of DNA hybrid catalyst produced by the construction of a cooperative active site with a Lewis acid and a H-bond donor.

Based on the characteristic of benzo[d][1,2,3]thiadiazole to induce the systemic acquired resistance and improve the immunity of plants, benzo[d][1,2,3]thiadiazole was introduced into 1,2,3-benzotriazin-4-one, thirty-one novel 1,2,3-benzotriazin-4-one derivatives containing benzo[d][1,2,3]thiadiazole were designed and synthesized. Nematicidal activity showed that most of the synthesized compounds exhibited great inhibitory activity in vivo against Meloidogyne incognita at 20 mg/L. Among 31 tested compounds, A2 and A3 showed an excellent nematicidal activity with the inhibition rate of 50.4% and 53.1% at the concentration of 1.0 mg/L, respectively. The influence of substituent type and position was investigated. The relationship between structure and activity was also preliminary analyzed.

Starting with hydrazides 7a,b, N-alkyl-2-(4-oxobenzotriazin-3(4H)-yl)-alkanamides 9-10(a-h) and methyl-2-(2-(4-oxobenzotriazin-3(4H)-yl)alkanamido)alkanoates 11- 12(a-e) were prepared via azide coupling. Hydrazones 13-15 were prepared via condensation of hydrazides 7a,b with 4-methoxybenzaldehyde, 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, and/or arabinose. Molecular docking was done for synthesized compounds using MOE 2008-10 software. The compounds 9a, 12a, 12c, 13a, 13b, and 14b have the most pronounced strong binding affinities toward the target E. coli Fab-H receptor, whereas compounds 3, 11e, 12e, and 13a have the most pronounced strong binding affinities toward the target vitamin D receptor. The in vitro antibacterial activities of the highest binding affinity docked compounds were tested against E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella spp. Majority of the tested compounds showed effective positive results against E. coli, while they were almost inactive against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella spp. The in vitro cytotoxic activities of the highest binding affinity-docked compounds were tested against the human liver carcinoma cell line (HepG2). Some compounds showed potent cytotoxic activity with low IC50 values, especially for 3 (6.525 mu M) and 13a (10.97 mu M) than that for standard drug doxorubicin (2.06 mu M).
