Mixed Matrix Membranes (MMMs) made from a porous covalent triazine piperazine polymer (CTPP) as filler embedded in poly ether-block-amide (PEBAX (R) 1657) were studied for the separation of CO2/N-2 and CO2/CH4 gas systems. At a loading rate of 0.025 wt%, significant improvement was achieved for both CO2 permeability (from 53 to 73 barrer) and selectivity (from 51 to 79 for CO2/N-2 and from 17 to 25 for CO2/CH4) that were measured at 293 K and 3 bars. Results of FTIR, DSC, WAXS, and SEM revealed a strong interaction between CTPP and PEBAX due to the high density of hydrogen bonding in CTPP, which led to chain rigidification of PEBAX at very low loading rate compared to other literature reported systems. On the other hand, CTPP contains rich nitrogen in the framework, which favourites the adsorption of CO2 more than N-2 and CH4. Hence, although the chain rigidification decreased the CO2 adsorption sites in PEBAX matrix, the intrinsic porosity and high surface area of CTPP compensated the diffusivity and solubility which in turn improved the overall permeability and selectivity at a very low loading rate. CTPP is highly stable in acid, base, and high temperature up to 400 degrees C. Hence, this novel type material is a very promising filler for preparation of mixed matrix membranes for the separation of CO2/N-2 and CO2/CH4 systems.

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was adopted to study the feed-membrane surface affinity and transport behavior of furfural molecules when a poly(ether block amide) (PEBA-2533) membrane was employed. The furfural molecules exhibited a stronger interaction with the PEBA-2533 membrane than the water molecules. Transport behavior analysis indicated that the self-diffusion selectivity in the membrane increased with an increase in feed furfural concentration and the cavity size of the membrane was crucial for the separation of larger molecules. The permeate furfural concentration increased with an increase in membrane thickness and a membrane selectivity damping model was proposed to explain this phenomenon. The MD technique showed great potential as an approach to characterize the performance of the PEBA-2533 membrane during the pervaporation process.

Both enzymes are catalytically promiscuous, and we generated 10 different macroamidines. Our data provide important insights into the versatility of YcaO enzymes, their ability to utilize different nucleophiles and provide a framework for the creation of novel bottromycin derivatives with enhanced bioactivity.

The single crystal structure of diethyl (3-bromo-1-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)(2,6-dimethylphenylamino)methylphosphonate (compound 12b) was first reported. Moreover, the bioassays displayed that the title compounds exhibited modest or weak insecticidal activities against oriental armyworm at 200 mu gmL(-1). The first investigation on the fungicidal potential of chlorantraniliprole showed no significant activities towards the six tested fungi found in this study, however, most of the title compounds displayed apparent in vitro fungicidal activity against some plant fungi, in particular excellent activities towards Physalospora piricola. Compounds 11a and 11b had EC50 values of 18.8 and 17.4 mu gmL(-1), respectively, which were comparable with that of fungicide control triadimefon (EC50 = 24.7 mu gmL(-1)) against Physalospora piricola. In addition, some compounds exhibited modest in vivo control efficacy at 0.5 mgmL(-1) towards Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (11b: 30.1(1.8)%), Rhizoctonia cerealis (11a: 20.4(+/- 2.1)%; 11b: 30.2(+/- 2.2)%), and Erysiphe graminis (11a: 30.3(+/- 1.8)%; 12d: 40.2(+/- 0.9)%). CONCLUSIONCompounds 11a, 11b and 12d could be promising new lead structures for the development and discovery of novel fungicides towards Physalospora piricola and Erysiphe graminis. The structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis provided useful guidance and new understanding for the design of novel pyridylpyrazole-containing agrochemicals. Our previous studies showed that propane-2-sulfonic acid octadec-9-enyl-amide (N15), a novel peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors alpha and gamma (PPAR alpha/gamma) dual agonist, protected against ischaemia-induced acute brain damage in mice and improved cognitive ability in the chronic phase of ischaemic stroke. It is well known that hippocampal neurogenesis is closely related to cognitive function. In the present study, we investigated the effect of N15 on hippocampal neurogenesis and neuroplasticity in a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rat model. The middle cerebral artery of rats was blocked for 2 hours. Oral administration of 100 mg/kg N15 or vehicle was given once daily for days 2-13 after MCAO. The newly mature neurons were detected by staining. The expressions of synapse-related proteins were observed by qRT-PCR or western blotting. We found that N15-treated rats showed improved survival post-MCAO. In addition, N15 treatment markedly increased the newly mature neurons and enhanced the expression levels of growth-associated protein-43, synaptophysin, brain-derived neurotrophic factor and neurotrophin-3 in the hippocampus. Moreover, N15 promoted the activation of PPAR alpha and PPAR gamma on day 7 and 14 after cerebral ischaemia. These results reveal that N15 may promote neurogenesis and neuroplasticity in MCAO rats through the activation of the PPAR alpha/gamma dual signal pathway.
